Indira Gandhi on Women's Liberation

"To be liberated, woman must feel free to be herself, not in rivalry to man but in the context of her own capacity and her personality."

Indira Gandhi (1917-1984) was the third Prime Minister of India, serving from 1966 to 1977 and then again from 1980 until her death. She is the longest-serving prime minister in India's history and the only woman to ever hold the position. She was assassinated by two of her bodyguards in 1984. Indira Gandhi was named "Woman of the Millennium" by a BBC poll in 1999.
