An American Airlines plane has crashed in Jamaica injuring 40 after it overshot the runway, according to aviation authority reports. “There were no initial reports of fatalities, but Daryl Vaz, the country’s information minister, told local media that 40 people were injured. ‘The injured passengers have been taken to the Kingston Public Hospital,’ Mr Vaz told the Jamaica Observer. The Jamaica Gleaner newspaper said three of the injured were seriously hurt. Fox News reported that the plane had broken in two after leaving the runway, but early reports gave differing versions of the exact sequence of events. Charley Wilson, an American Airlines spokesman, said Flight 331 from Miami overshot the runway in Kingston but came to a safe stop. He said there were no reports of injuries or fatalities and that everyone had disembarked safely. Mr Wilson said the plane, which can carry up to 140 passengers, was nearly full when it landed.”
