Digital Startup Wins Another Pulitzer
What’s the Latest Development?
ProPublica, a non-profit news startup, won its second Pulitzer Prize on Monday. What’s an ever bigger deal about this one is that it’s the first ever for a series of stories not also published in print. Jesse Eisinger and Jake Bernstein of ProPublica were honored in the National Reporting category for their series of stories on how dubious practices on Wall Street contributed to the economic crisis.
What’s the Big Idea?
The Pulitzers, which date back to 1917, began allowing online-only publications to compete two years ago. And ProPublica, which publishes online at ProPublica.org and with partner news outlets, began operations in June 2008. Ten years from now will it instead be a surprise for a the prize-winner to have only been published in print, or even published in print at all?
