What’s the Latest Development?

“Laughing at your security since 2011!” is the catchline accompanying LulzSec’s announcement that “we have blissfully obtained records of every single citizen who gave their records to the security-illiterate UK government for the 2011 census.” Whether a fake announcement or not, concern is growing over the promised vow by the hacker groups LulzSec and Anonymous to unite against world governments after earlier attacks on Sony and the CIA.

What’s the Big Idea?

Among their goals, the groups declared on Sunday “immediate and unremitting war on the freedom-snatching moderators of 2011” in defiance at internet regulations. And governments are not the only potential victims: “Prime targets are banks and other high-ranking establishments”, the groups said. One of the main aims is to steal and then leak any classified information including emails and documents.
