The refugee expert explains the IRC’s media strategy.

Question: How do you spread the message about refugee issues?

George Rupp: On the question of media to get stories out, I think it already is the case that we worked very closely with internet media, with other forms of electronic media because we have recognized that that’s way to get out a burning, urgent, immediate story and we recognize that we need to do that.  And if you go to our website, you’ll see that we have substantial amounts of video on it, we’re increasingly working on with Facebook and Twitter and other such instrumentalities.  And we will continue to work in anything we can to get the word out about the crisis that we think are under-reported or underappreciated.  We also do that with print media but it certainly isn’t the only outlet that we cultivate in that respect.
