There is still a sizeable population of alienated and marginalized African-Americans, Kohut says.

Andrew Kohut: I think we also have to never underestimate the fact that race continues to be an important issue. We tend to forget about it when it’s not problematic. There are an awful lot of African-Americans who are still stuck, and alienated, and don’t participate in mainstream America.
