Building a Better Flyer

A new site offers users the ability to create online flyers that they can post on their social networks, presumably saving paper, tacks, tape, and time.

What’s the Latest Development?

A new Cleveland-based startup, Tackk, promises to do for flyers what Craigslist and much of the rest of the Internet did for classifieds: It removes the (paper) middleman by allowing users to create customized “single-use, disposable” announcements that they can then share on their social networks or on the site-specific “Tackkboard.” The company has raised $400,000 from local investors, and hopes to make a profit by offering premium services and branded content from marketers.

What’s the Big Idea?

Tackk co-founder Eric Bockmuller says his site “fill[s] a gap on the publishing side…Sometimes Facebook or a Twitter are too limiting, but you don’t want to have to go through the trouble of creating a blog post on a platform like WordPress. With Tackk, users upload an image (or embed other media), enter some text, and then customize the appearance as much or as little as [they] want.” One might wonder if Tackk can also replicate the tearing-off of the little pieces of paper at the bottom containing the contact’s phone number or e-mail address.
