A U.K. health watchdog’s call for “life-saving” food labeling and other dietary changes has met with an unenthusiastic government response. The Guardian covers a new report which also advocates a total ban on trans fats, and ensuring low fat and low salt foods are cheaper than unhealthier versions. Sarah Boseley reports that the government took the line that some measures were impractical and “that it was up to the individual to make healthy choices”. But a clinical epidemiology expert estimates the changes could save the the U.K. the equivalent of $1.47 billion.
