How Google’s Glasses Will Disrupt Everything
What’s the Latest Development?
Google has released a tantalizing video demonstrating how its augmented reality glasses will integrate all the features of our smartphones into a tiny, hands-free and transparent display in the upper-hand corner of a pair of glasses. The main challenge for Google, a company best known for its software innovations, is to build a winning piece of hardware, says TechCrunch’s Josh Constine. Called Project Glass, Google’s glasses will seek to incorporate its own products like Android, Maps, Google+, Gmail, Gcal, Latitude, and more…
What’s the Big Idea?
Other giants in the tech market might be undone by Google’s glasses, says Constine. While Apple is the leading hardware maker, its software remains exclusive and far less varied than Google’s. “Apple should seek to capitalize on Google’s lack of hardware experience, and spend some of its cash reserves to lock up critical component manufacturers.” And while Facebook dominates the social media world, its lack of an operating system and mobile device is limiting. Constine says Apple and Facebook, who are currently on chilly terms, might consider joining forces to face the threat of Project Glass.
