Azim Premji is an Indian philanthropist and the chairman of Wipro, Ltd. According to Forbes, Premji is currently the second richest person in India with a personal wealth of $17 billion. Wipro Ltd., which initially dealt in hydrogenated cooking fats along with consumer products, grew from a small company worth $2.5 million to a $1.4 billion conglomerate under Premji's leadership. Wipro Technologies, a subsidiary, is one of India's largest software companies and is ranked among the top 100 technology companies in the world. Premji has been called the "Indian Bill Gates" for his efforts as a philanthropist, and recently announced that he will give away the bulk of his fortune to charity before he dies.
