Karadzic Does a Bunk

The former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has failed to appear in court in The Hague charged with genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Radovan Karadzic the former Bosnian Serb leader charged on 11 counts including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity relating to the Bosnian war of the 1990s, failed to appear in court in The Hague today. Mr Karadzic, who denies the charges against him, had apparently warned that he needed more time to prepare his defence. He has been called to an International Criminal Tribunal after his capture last year, following 13 years in hiding. A BBC report said: “Judge O-Gon Kwon adjourned proceedings less than 30 minutes after the court opened, saying he requested Mr Karadzic to attend on Tuesday so that the trial would not be obstructed. The prosecution called for the tribunal to impose counsel on Mr Karadzic. The BBC’s Geraldine Coughlan at The Hague said it is unclear how they will proceed if Mr Karadzic does not appear in the dock.”
