We run programs at Singularity University where we bring executives in and they come back once or twice a year to keep track of where the technology is and where it’s going to be in two, four, five, ten years.

Some friends I know were the founders of Siri. When they started the company they knew that the technology they needed to implement their vision didn’t exist at that time, but they actually planned the company such that they would intersect the technology when it became available. And so I speak about that to entrepreneurs at Singularity University today.

If you’re starting a company don’t begin it with the technology available today.  Begin it with the technology that you anticipate being available in two years or three years because if you launch with today’s technology by the time you come to market you’re going to be out of business.
