I swear, this is the most important election of all time!
Never before in our nation’s history have we faced such a monumental decision.
The stakes are enormous: the next President will not only be dealing with a possible recession but will also be the Commander in Chief of the U.S. military! He will have to make major decisions about the economy, social justice (gay marriage!), and foreign affairs! He will have to usher us into an unprecedented new era, filled with new technologies and ways of communicating. We have Facebook and Twitter now, for God’s sake! And Instagram! No one even mentioned Instagram during the 2008 election. You can see how high the stakes are.
I swear, this is the most important election of all time!
When you step into the voting booth in November, you will have to choose between one of two candidates — Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Do not stop to think about why you only have two options. Do not be angry that voting for a different candidate (the one you like best) would be the same as throwing your vote away. This is the way the system has always worked and we shouldn’t question it.
Whichever of the two candidates we elect for president has his work cut out for him. This is the most challenging time in U.S. history. Never before has the nation faced such important decisions. For example, Wall Street! Our next president has to figure out how to make bankers happy while preventing the common people from revolting. And The War on Terror! Our next president has to try to win it!
Life is so complicated now, isn’t it? It has never been so difficult to be a U.S. citizen, let alone President! Think about it: millions of people are unemployed, and this president has to figure out what to do about that! Has there ever been such an economically tenuous time in U.S. history? I don’t think so! And have we ever faced a graver threat than Islamic Terrorism? No way!
This is why it is so important that you think long and hard about whom to vote for in November. Check out the two candidates’ websites. Watch CNN. Ask your parents. Find out how the candidates stand on the issues that you care about. For example, if you are a pacifist who doesn’t believe in Nuclear Holocaust, see if you can figure out how the candidates would deal with a nuclear-armed Iran.
This election is going to come down to you. Thank God we have a true Democracy in the United States! Only in America do we have the freedom to vote for one of two candidates for President. We even have two different major parties — the Democrats and the Republicans. Do any other countries even hold elections, let alone give you a choice between two political parties?
We are so blessed to live in the Freest, Greatest Country in the World. I have to admit, I don’t know who I’m going to vote for yet — the candidates are so different, after all (one of them is even bi-racial!) — but what I do know is that this election will be the defining moment for America for the next century and beyond.
