of course the media essentialy needs to be regulated by themselves but with moral standerds of today it is sad what makes the final cut for the news(especially if britney spears did something so called "interesting" that week)

Doesn't too much competition lead to market fragmentation, and therefore to poorer quality of media? In a fiercely competitive environment, what incentive does/should a media corporation have to tell people things they don't want to hear?
