Queen Elizabeth II: “Diversity is a strength, not a threat”

Elizabeth II (b 1926) is Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. She ascended to the throne in 1952 after the death of her father, George VI, and is due to pass Queen Victoria next year as the longest-reigning British monarch. The following quotation is from her 2004 Christmas broadcast (the British monarch has been making these broadcasts since 1932).
“Discrimination still exists. Some people feel that their own beliefs are being threatened. Some are unhappy about unfamiliar cultures. They all need to be reassured that there is so much to be gained by reaching out to others; that diversity is indeed a strength and not a threat.”
