Warren is a pastor, an author, a global strategist, a toolmaker, a philanthropist, a father, and a grandfather.

Question: Beyond a simple title, how would you describe what you do?

Rick Warren:    I wear a lot of hats.  I’m a pastor.  I’m an author.  I’m a global strategist.  I’m a toolmaker.  I’m a father and a grandfather, and I’m a philanthropist.  So in each of those areas, my life is very varied and has a lot of different implications to it.  But I enjoy every bit of it.

I’m an amateur.  And “amateur” comes from the word “amore” which means “I do it out of love”.  Nobody pays me to do what I do.  I’m not paid as a pastor.  I’m not paid as an author.  I don’t take the royalties from it.  I’m not paid. When the book “Purpose Driven Life” came out, we were able to begin reverse tithing where we give away 90% of our income and keep 10%.
