Thomas Cooley:  Well, it's important to have very clearly defined incentives in business.  I believe that people do respond to incentives, but people also respond to vision and values.  So I think the important thing is that business leaders who are really successful make the people who work with them successful as well.  And success is defined in a lot of different ways.  So obviously, there's economic success, but that's only a part of it.  An important part of it is being part of a shared vision for what you're accomplishing in society.

Clear vision is a powerful incentive, says Cooley.

Meet the Bajau sea nomads — they can reportedly hold their breath for 13 minutes

The Bajau people's nomadic lifestyle has given them remarkable adaptions, enabling them to stay underwater for unbelievable periods of time. Their lifestyle, however, is quickly disappearing.

  • The Bajau people travel in small flotillas throughout the Phillipines, Malaysia, and Indonesia, hunting fish underwater for food.
  • Over the years, practicing this lifestyle has given the Bajau unique adaptations to swimming underwater. Many find it straightforward to dive up to 13 minutes 200 feet below the surface of the ocean.
  • Unfortunately, many disparate factors are erasing the traditional Bajau way of life.
