I do research on laser ceramics, and am most of the way toward a PhD degree in materials science. I love to make things, whether they're artistic or technological. In fact, I don't think it's healthy to build a wall between art and technology; look into the etymology of those words if you doubt how recent the distinction between them is. I'm a progressive Christian. The mainstream notion of a liberal, or of a Christain, recommends hard, sharp lines in some places, and fuzzy shades of gray in others. I find those recommendations perverse and destructive. Case in point: hardly anyone on TV believes in both creation and evolution.  Apparently, I have my sharp and fuzzy distinctions in the opposite places from where I'm supposed to.
