Joan Blades
Co-Founder, MoveOn.org; Founder, MomsRising.org
Joan Blades is currently a political activist and blogger at Huffington Post, where she writes frequently on family issues and motherhood in America. In 1987, she and her husband, Wes Boyd, launched a software company, Berkeley Systems, which produced a popular screensaver and the trivia game You Don't Know Jack. They later sold the company, and in 1998, launched the political website Moveon.org. Blades is co-author (with Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner) of "The Motherhood Manifesto" (2003), and has spearheaded two additional websites, Moms Rising andFamilies Rising. Born in 1956 in Berkeley, California, Blades earned her B.A. from UC Berkeley and her law degree from Golden Gate Law School, where she has taught mediation.
