Japan's Worst Crisis Since WWII
Japan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan said the country was suffering its worst crisis since World War II. The death toll could exceed 10,000 in one district alone, police warned.
Battling against nuclear meltdown and counting casualties from the tsunami, Japan finds itself in its worst crisis since the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. "'The current situation of the earthquake, tsunami and the nuclear plants is in a way the most severe crisis in the past 65 years since World War II,' Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan said in a televised address. 'Whether we Japanese can overcome this crisis depends on each of us. I strongly believe that we can get over this great earthquake and tsunami by joining together.' The country was hit by further powerful aftershocks on Sunday."
