The Hercules ROV is exploring the Kolombo hydrothermal vent field near Santorini in the Aegean Sea. Santorini/Thera (see above) is famous for the Minoan eruption in ~1645 BC – and a spectacular place to visit. The Kolumbo (or Colombo) Bank is a volcano in its own right, last erupting (that we know of) in ~1650 AD.
