Intrepid Yemeni journalist, Arafat Madabish, scored an impressive coup for al-Sharq al-Awsat (he also runs the al-Tagheer website) by getting an interview with ‘Abd al-Malik al-Huthi. The interview is fairly extensive and should be read by everyone looking to understand the al-Huthi conflict.

In an effort to cut back on blogging in the face of multiple other commitments I am not going to go into a full analysis, but I was interested to hear that Badr al-Din al-Huthi is still alive and doing well. This confirms what the Yemeni government suspected by putting Badr al-Din on its list of 55 suspects back at the beginning of this round of conflict in August. (Still as one friend told me over the weekend, if Badr al-Din was really alive why isn’t he in any of the videos the group’s increasingly sophisticated media is putting out?) Interestingly of the 55 only 3 were members of the al-Huthi family.
