George Bernard Shaw Spoke to Patriotism’s Spurious Fundamental Conviction

“Patriotism is, fundamentally, a conviction that a particular country is the best in the world because you were born in it.”

George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) was an Irish playwright and recipient of the 1925 Nobel Prize for Literature. His most popular work is probably Pygmalion, which would later be adapted into the musical My Fair Lady. Shaw was also a charter member of the Fabian Society and one of the co-founders of the London School of Economics.
