You might feel like you are doing your body a favor by hitting the snooze button in the morning and giving yourself a few extra minutes to wake up.
However, by doing so, you are “making the wake-up process more difficult and drawn out” writes Big Thinker Maria Konnikova in The New Yorker. The cortical regions of the brain take a while to be activated, and by inducing so-called sleep inertia, Konnikova writes, “our memory, reaction time, ability to perform basic mathematical tasks, and alertness and attention all suffer.”
