Removing An American Psycho From The Airwaves

Could Rush Limbaugh finally be on his way to joining Glenn Beck in right wing wacko purgatory? I don’t know how to tell Rush Limbaugh this, but after his three day SlutFest Extravaganza, where he continually defamed the character of Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown law student who testified before Congress last week about contraceptives, that fake apology he issued yesterday, the one that reads like his lawyer wrote it, simply will not work. At this point, Limbaugh could apologize to Ms. Fluke on camera, naked, with wooden clothes pins clamped to his penis while someone stood behind him with a blowtorch, methodically scorching the hairs off of his ass, and it still wouldn’t be enough.

This is what free speech, Limbaugh style, looks like [UPDATED WITH VIDEO]:

“You’d call ’em a slut, a prostitute”

“she’s having so much sex”

“are having so much sex that they’re going broke”

“they want to have sex any time, as many times and as often as they want, with as many partners as they want”

“the sexual habits of female law students at Georgetown”

“are having so much sex that they’re going broke”

“having so much sex that it’s hard to make ends meet”

“four out of every ten co-eds are having so much sex that it’s hard to make ends meet”

“Now, what does that make her? She wants us to buy her sex.”

“to pay for these co-eds to have sex”

“she and her co-ed classmates are having sex nearly three times a day for three years straight, apparently these deadbeat boyfriends or random hookups that these babes are encountering here, having sex with nearly three times a day”

“Therefore we are paying her to have sex. Therefore we are paying her for having sex.”

“Have you ever heard of not having sex so often?”

“Ms. Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here’s the deal: If we are going to pay for your contraceptives and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. And I’ll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.”

“we want something in return, Ms. Fluke: And that would be the videos of all this sex posted online so we can see what we are getting for our money.”

“’If we’re paying for this, it makes these women sluts, prostitutes.’ And what else could it be?”

“essentially says that she must be paid to have sex. What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right?”

“I’m having sex so damn much, I’m going broke.”

“She’s having so much sex that she’s going broke! There’s no question about her virtue.”

“having so much sex she’s going broke at Georgetown Law.”

“Here’s a woman exercising no self-control. The fact that she wants to have repeated, never-ending, as often as she wants it sex — given.”

“She’s having so much sex it’s amazing she can still walk, but she made it up there.”

“Maybe they’re sex addicts.”

“to pay for her to have sex all the time.”

“she wants the rest of us to pay for her sex.”

“She wants all the sex that she wants all the time paid for by the rest of us.”

“Here this babe goes before Congress and wants thousands of dollars to pay for her sex.”

“a woman who is happily presenting herself as an immoral, baseless, no-purpose-to-her-life woman.”

“She wants all the sex in the world, whenever she wants it, all the time.”

“If this woman wants to have sex ten times a day for three years, fine and dandy.”

“to provide women from Georgetown Law unlimited, no-consequences sex.”

“so she can have unlimited, no-consequences sex.”

“You want to have all the sex you want all day long, no consequences, no responsibility for your behavior”

“The woman wants unlimited, no-responsibility, no-consequences sex, and she wants it with contraceptives paid for by us.”

Excerpted from the March 1st Rush Limbaugh broadcast

That is from only one day of a three day rampage on the air. Rush Limbaugh was not talking about Sista Souljah, or “nappy headed hoes”, or any other group of females arrogant white men like him consider to be throwaway human beings. He was talking about a fresh faced young white woman, the kind of young lady who looks like the sister or the daughter or the niece or the granddaughter of a large portion of America.

This is what the free market, responsible citizen style, looks like:

A Statement from David Friend, CEO of Carbonite:

“No one with daughters the age of Sandra Fluke, and I have two, could possibly abide the insult and abuse heaped upon this courageous and well-intentioned young lady. Mr. Limbaugh, with his highly personal attacks on Miss Fluke, overstepped any reasonable bounds of decency.

Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.”

For all of you political wafflers and corporate middle-of-the-roaders who need a tutorial on how to repudiate Rush Limbaugh, David Friend shows you exactly how it’s done. Our modern media’s “comment and reaction” format breeds false equivalencies – there is no intellectual bedrock to oppose in any of Limbaugh’s ratings driven pronouncements, just constant shameless pandering to the lowest common denominator of White America’s basest fears that often mirrors the level of thinking needed to comprehend a Three Stooges episode.

Since no one in the media is willing to say it, I will. Rush Limbaugh is a hero to those who are tired of having to be politically correct. He is a hero to those who are annoyed that there are fewer and fewer artificial barriers left to keep us undesirables whose cheap labor was necessary to build this country from getting a fair chance at the opportunities they have traditionally enjoyed. Rush Limbaugh is a hero to that vilest subset of humanity, those who miss being able to call us minorities niggers, chinks, spics, towel heads and redskins with impunity, or chastise and abuse women without fear of rebuke.

There is no other side of this argument. There is no intellectual quibbling over the fine points of this issue. There is no way that you as a candidate for the presidency of the United States of America can possibly waffle when it comes to taking a position on whether Rush Limbaugh was right or wrong.

To allow a man to continually howl about how much of a slut a real live woman is supposed to be on FCC regulated airwaves without comment, especially when you are a public figure who is associated with the GOP or the conservative movement, is beyond reprehensible.

So why are the GOP’s presidential candidates trying to ignore this and hope it goes away? Where are these he-man Republicans, who swear they are ready to bomb Iran off the map, when it comes to denouncing one overweight radio show host with a confirmed drug problem?

Why can’t Mitt Romney, who has several hundred million dollars of his own money, be a real rich guy and tell Rush Limbaugh, without any equivocation, to shut the hell up?

Why can’t Newt Gingrich assert, as only he can do, that Limbaugh is “a fundamentally flawed individual?”

As much of a whack job as candidate Rick Santorum is, you would think the denigration provided by the “slut” imagery alone would have gotten his blood pumping, especially since he is a father of several girls. You would think this even if the Santorum women are not very likely, either now or in the future, to make use of oral contraceptives.

The most disgusting thing about this is the absolute silence from the men who call themselves leaders of the religious right, men who can stand on top of their moral high horses in support of any effort to control a woman’s behavior, but turn into jellyfish when rich and powerful men are behaving badly.

To the political activists who have seized this opportunity to economically injure the companies who pay to keep this puerile prognosticator spouting off over public airwaves, I urge you to redouble your efforts to put pressure on Rush Limbaugh’s advertisers. I will be happy to join you in working to remove this psychopath from the American airwaves.

Who would have ever thought that Rush Limbaugh would be felled by a Fluke?
