“After a very long wait, the image that the world has awaited is finally here!”
Carolyn Porco wrote these excited words in an email yesterday, and the image the planetary scientist was referring to is above.
“It is our mosaic of the Saturn system, with our home planet, Earth, far in the distance, taken on the day that the inhabitants of Earth smiled in return,” wrote Porco, who heads the Cassini Imaging Team. It also reveals, at close inspection, a number of other surprises — both within the Saturn system and without — that are sure to delight.
