Is happiness the measure of a good life?

Uploaded on 01/16/2008
Doesn't that presuppose that Happiness is the definition of good? I mean, I'm right next to you brother -- I measure my "goodness" in terms of my own happiness -- but I don't know that that's true for everyone, and more importantly can happiness alone define Goodness? Can we consider those who live their life totally selfishly, perpetuating their own happiness at the cost of others, to be living a truly Good life? What about a the truly selfless among us. Is the painful life of a day laborer, working hard to earn for their family -- little chance to be truly happy, but confident that they're doing the work needed to allow their children a good life. Is that not a good life?
