Egypt's landmark election has already been overshadowed by turmoil, and the population is sharply polarized and confused over the nation’s direction, but the vote promises to be the fairest and cleanest there in living memory. The Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s largest and best organized group, is expected to do well.
What's the Big Idea?
After decades of being outlawed and persecuted, Islamists have emerged above ground as a pivotal political force and some within Egypt, and in the West, fear an attempt to implement a strict version of Islamic law. According to the B. B. C., official results from the first phase of voting should be announced on Wednesday, but the final make-up of the lower and upper house of parliament won't be clear till March.
