It is interesting that Mr. Dolan identifies the “opportunity sensing” skill and the “problem solving” skill. In my experience if found that the opportunty sensing skill is just another level of the problem solving skill. In any business managers should be constantly on the look out for changes in the landscape, new technologies, new business models, and then apply their problem solving skill set to approach these new opportunities. How to react with online technology to the dying print newspaper business? That is both a problem and an opportunity.
