Rogers’ notion of keeping it simple (as possible) in terms of investment strategy is a good one for these times.   Once you’re over your head in terms of understanding the day to day dynamics of any asset class, you stop being able to control risk effectively.  In the extreme case, you’re better off throwing dice because at least the odds somewhat transparent.

Because I’m not wealthy, and can’t afford to make high risk investments, I find Roger’s advice comforting. He seems to conservative in his views about where to put your money- yet he is  described as an “investment legend”  His approach is one that appeals to me- make educated, careful decisions about your finances. I’m not an expert on any certain currency or commodity and Rogers admits that he isn’t either- until he does careful research. I like his cautious , yet relaxed, attitude towards making investment decisions. Yes, alot of people have made alot of money in high-risk ventures, yet just as many have lost everything. Cassy Roberts’ comment  about  Rogers being awesome is right on the mark- I think he’s a “legend” because of his careful, studied approach to all financial matters.

I enjoyed Jim’s books — Adventure Capitalist and the Biker one. Didn’t realize he moved to Singapore, but I seem to recall that Jim stated in an interview that you have to move where the action is. To London, to New York, and in this new millennium, one should be in Asia. I completely agree, but I’m still sitting on the other side of the Pacific Rim!

I’ve often heard the advice — “Invest in what you know”. While I believe that is good advice, it seems to me that it is somewhat limiting. You can always go out and learn more about something and spend time studying it. Thus, you’ll know it… That maxim always makes me feel that human beings are static, unchanging. Of course, we know that isn’t true.

Either way, listening to Jim Rogers is always enlightening and useful.
