"Universities are increasingly using wait lists to cope with the growing number of applicants, and the resulting uncertainty about how many will accept their offers of admission." High school student Saffa Khan is on four college wait lists, and writes about how these lists "prolong the holding pattern of teenage life." She thinks it would be better for colleges to simply reject students who don't have a reasonable chance of getting in.
