What’s the Latest Development?
Google Chairman Eric Schmidt has reportedly confirmed that the company will release a high-end tablet computer in the next six month. According to the UK Telegraph, Schmidt made the comment during an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. There are already plenty of tablets running Google’s Android software but “the device mentioned by Schmidt would not be a tablet running Google software yet made by someone else, such as the Xoom—it would be a Google product, from top to bottom.”
What’s the Big Idea?
Techi Jeff Bertolucci predicts that Google’s tablet will cost around $500, putting it in the league of Apple’s iPad. For that price, Bertolucci expects an enhanced user experience that will run at least Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software. “Assuming that the Google Nexus tablet did hit before the fall of 2012, it would be going head-to-head against the, which is widely expected to launch next February or March.” For its part, the iPad 3 is expected to get an HD display, possibly double the resolution of current models.
