All London taxi drivers spend two to four years studying the shortest route between all roads within a six mile radius of Charing Cross before taking a test and receiving their license. But in a unique way, drivers are also taught conflict management, in particular the benefit of humility. “Drivers are encouraged, over time and whatever the provocation, to be humble before the Examiner; those who repeatedly lose their cool are judged to be dangerous and a risk when dealing with possible theft, assault and worse,” writes Stephen Adshead.
