Investing in Your Passions

"Where does the overlap occur between desirable and investible?" The Wall Street Journal asks if investing in your passion—be it wine or art—creates financial and emotional returns.

“With equity returns being eroded by market volatility and bond yields at record lows it is unsurprising that investors are looking around for other places to put their money. It is equally understandable that they are increasingly thinking about investments that will not only yield them a decent return over the long term but will also give them some enjoyment in the mean time. But passion investments come with their own problems. They are hard to incorporate into a traditional portfolio, they are more prone to fads and fashions than (even) financial securities. They are also hard to classify. Where, for example, does the overlap occur between desirable and investible?”
