Despite a bloated and ineffective American justice system, current state budget cuts affecting front line officers and public defenders deal a blow to due process, says Sasha Abramsky at The Guardian.

Despite a bloated and ineffective American justice system, current state budget cuts affecting front line officers and public defenders deal a blow to due process, says Sasha Abramsky at The Guardian. “Confronted with catastrophic cash shortfalls, and having run out of the politically easy things to cut, cities, counties and states are now slashing the dollars that they allocate to their frontline law enforcement agencies; and these cuts increasingly put foot patrols and other effective anti-crime strategies on the chopping block…That’s unfair to everybody,” says Abramsky.
