The Lincoln Memorial is more than just a tribute to America’s 16th president. It holds great meaning to the Civil Rights movement, as it was the location of Marian Anderson’s concert in 1939 and Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech in 1963.
The memorial has now been shut down after green paint was splattered over the statue of Lincoln. According to police, no words or symbols had been painted or written on the memorial. So what does this desecration mean? Is it mere vandalism?
