I would like to see the Special Interest Groups in Washington and elsewhere butt out of the Corp of Engineers operation of our navigable rivers, especially the Missouri River. It is a known fact that barge traffic provides the most economical transportation avaiable today, and has always been a boon to moving grain and other commodities up and down the rivers. The recent actions involving the cutting of dikes and opening the Mo. River back up to run wide and free has pretty much destroyed the barge transportation industry here in the mid-west, causing more and more trucking and rail shipping which in turn is less economical and is more fuel dependent. Moreover, it is causing the river to become more flood prone as well.
