http://www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=4095&page=0 Very concerning article, which greg mankiw posted on his blog. So many concerns people propose are naturally side effects of the movement towards productive and efficient markets. Recently i was listening to a discussion of India's food market and there had been discussion that walmart could enter the market and create more efficiency. As of now there isn't enough food and the food that does come to market is very expensive. Walmart would solve that problem... naturally many would be forced out of the food industry and have their labour allocated to more productive industries... unemployment is not a correct title for these people as they are simply structural and frictional unemployment assumed to be temporary... india would be better off with walmart... will the government support such a policy... probably not...
