Doce Wildfire: Scorched Earth Seen From Space

The image above shows the "burn scar" left from the Dolce fire that has devastated the area around Prescott, Arizona. 

The image above shows the “burn scar” left from the Doce fire that has devastated the area around Prescott, Arizona. This natural-color image, taken from the Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite, shows charred areas in grey; untouched areas in green; areas with little vegetation are tan. The rust-colored band is where 335,000 gallons of retardant was dropped by aircraft to contain the fire. 


According to NASA, it is rare to see flame retardant residue from space.
