i think that judges should reflect on public opinion--as opposed to their own personal opinions--in deciding cases. That's not to say that the law shouldn't control--of course, the law controls--but there are times when a court can consider the larger world--and surely that should be the prevailing views of the country rather than their own narrower views. But stop for a moment--I don't mean they should adopt the prejudices of the mob, but rather the prevailing wisdom of considered judgement.
