EGO vs. Human instinct.....

Human instinct is what we are born with, if we believe that our inherited instinct strengthens us both physically and psychologically (equipping our chances of survival). How can we make the differentiation between what is EGO vs. Human instinct? 

Is ego just audacious human instinct?
