We all know that extremely happy and kind person that can't say a bad word... as well as that pissy and grumpy pain in the rear that grumbles at everyone and everything.
My questions is this: where they born that way or is that the result of lifes work?
I'm a happy and kind person in general, and I think I've been this way most of my life. Not because of religion or upbrining (my Mom & Dad are pretty grumpy peple), but because I've always just had that urge in life.

I think kindness is cultivated. I say that because I think I’ve got quite a lot kinder over the years, through various experiences. Although that “super-kind” person, the one who never has a bad day and always helps people … well I don’t think I’ll ever be like that. Not sure I’d want to, even.

As a sociable species, kindness has certainly benefited mankind. If kindness had to be cultivated it would not have shown itself so early in our history. I know that being kind is less noble as an inherited trait than an adopted trait but I’ll take it and appreciate it any way it comes.

“super-kind” is just fine but be aware of a persons motivation. People are kind for many reasons; even if a person is sincere they may still be motivated by personal gain. Niceness motivated by personal insecurity is not completely sincere.
Being kind is wonderfully pleasant and healthy and should be encouraged by society.

I would like to open the question up further as to how it relates to other existing phenomena. Kindness in its application is closely akin to honesty, love, and many other admirable traits. These niceties are diametrically opposed to their opposites-Hate, dishonesty, cruelty…Richard Dawkins once commented on the origin of positive social behaviors and the sum of his statement was that civil behavior is inherent within each of us as a survival technique and I tend to agree with him. If I go around lying, murdering, and stealing (to pick the big 3) I will be ostracized and my chances of mating decline drastically. Should I choose to live an honest and friendly life, my chances improve.
