A word about Big Ideas and Themes — The architecture of Big Think

Big ideas are lenses for envisioning the future. Every article and video on bigthink.com and on our learning platforms is based on an emerging “big idea” that is significant, widely relevant, and actionable. We’re sifting the noise for the questions and insights that have the power to change all of our lives, for decades to come. For example, reverse-engineering is a big idea in that the concept is increasingly useful across multiple disciplines, from education to nanotechnology.

To be a leader means not talking to yourself. If that's how you feel, then it's not your team's fault for not understanding you. You're not asking them the right questions.

Daniel Pink, a management expert and the author of classic business books, including Drive, stopped by the Big Think studio to talk about the art of influence.

His latest book, To Sell is Human: The Surprising Truth About Moving Others, explains how to motivate others into action. If you want to close a sales deal or finally convince your child to clean his room, learn to ask the right questions. By doing so, you get others articulating what motivates them and how to bring about the desired results. Motivation, as Pink explains, begins within.
