A word about Big Ideas and Themes — The architecture of Big Think

Big ideas are lenses for envisioning the future. Every article and video on bigthink.com and on our learning platforms is based on an emerging “big idea” that is significant, widely relevant, and actionable. We’re sifting the noise for the questions and insights that have the power to change all of our lives, for decades to come. Can cloud computing change everything? Entrepreneur Jason Fried says yes, if we put our irrational fears about it behind us. Michael Schatz, a professor and researcher at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, wants to see Google's algorithms applied to the transfer and analysis of genetic data. He too, believes that the benefits -- a holistic interpretation of the human genome -- outweigh the security risks. Physicist Michio Kaku estimates that within 10 years, everyone will have a digital copy of their genome for just $1000.
