Good points, Ahab. Science is a tool, and not a belief system. Discoveries we make when using science are sometimes seen as a threat to long-held "truths", and in the case of religious beliefs, people really get upset, because it's becoming more and more difficult to suspend the disbelief that is required to maintain the illusion.

Science saves.

'religion as a way of understanding the universe'… more a way of limiting our understanding I'd say.
