Why is this such a great puzzle? If you talking about any other animals, wouldn’t it be expected that they would wander around until they came to some obstacle, like a seashore. When talking about why all the marsupials are in Australia, it seems to be taken for granted..disigny

No, not neccessarily, other animals are territorial and comfortable in their own ecosystem niche.  A slight change in their environment may diminish the population.

For human beings to leave solid land to sail across water is an incredibly big shift.

Why not just stay in Northern Africa. On the coast couldn’t we assume they had plenty of protein filled foods from the coastal sea?  Or had the food supply declined?

Or, or, or . . . There are many questions to answer or dismiss and all of them seem very interesting!

The part of the earth’s land shell that we call Australia wasn’t always the same shape nor in the same position.  Is it possible that some species were trapped on Autstralia when it started on its trip to its present position?
