Mr. Jean raises an important point. Hip Hop is probably important and relevant to kids in parts of the united states simply because it makes them dream. I have noticed that when doing an exam, we simply leave it there. The grade you have is the grade you end up with. I believe this ends up creating a system were student just glide through their classes, and end up with insuficient skills to tackle problems the educational system was suposed to show them how to deal with. How do we teach students how to learn?
Damnit, im pissed at society. We focus on the failing student, the quality of books, the funding of the schools and so on. As a student, who the hell came to me to explain how to motivate myself to study, how to create a plan to be successful and how to go towards what I could be happy in. Money as the motivator of society?
Consider the hidden cost of reward : When you extrinsically reward someone who had done something that was intrinsically motivated, you diminish that intrinsic motivation and promote the persons dependence on external gains. Is money the best way to motivate people? I would rather study because what I am studying is interesting to me, rather than to have a good grade on the exam. You learn things every day don't you not? In the last years, what have you learned?Are these things constructive to you life, are they helping you grow, making you reach the other step? I am presently an undergrad, the technical information I have learned is stacking up significantly, as expected. However the most important thing I have taught myself would be love of learning. Manpollo is a project created on youtube to create a difference by massive exposure. Anyone interested in ideas and ways to make a difference about our environment cant type Manpollo Project in youtube or google to get more information.
My personal contribution, if by the time I complete it the project has not been done by someone else is to use my personal setting to promote the information to other cultures. I live in montreal and attend a university which has a great mix of cultures. I will contact people from different culture and offer a traduction of the Manpollo project and then post it to popular forums around the world in their respective language.
