sara crouch commented on Religious laws, how is it posible to forse someone to be "good" on February 8, 2008, 4:16 AM

It's mind control, mass manipulation of a people. Whenever a new settlement or society forms, what is the first organization established? Religion. Because it is the most exquisite way to control others. In any good society we must have good, and bad, otherwise there's no conflict, no reason for us to have enforcers. And if the thought of being punished here on Earth for living your life isn't a large enough threat, then of course there is always the threat of hell. Brilliant manipulation.

Ok I agree, but slavery did not offer people psychological comfort, it did not promise people that their loved ones were safe in the arms of a god in an afterlife. You can't compare abolishing slavery with abolishing religious control over this country. I wish there was a way to open everyone's eyes. I do not see a rebirth of American consciousness occurring anytime soon.

I agree, however by your reasoning we can then also say that all people of faith are agnostic. In general, people do not like to admit this, but certainly it is true.

sara crouch commented on Is heaven a comforting concept for you? on February 7, 2008, 4:15 AM

A genetic imperative? Our theoretical souls have nothing to do with a genetic imperative. Once we've died, obviously our biological survival instinct is irrelevant. I'm unsure about what you're trying to say. For the moment I'll assume you're saying if you choose not to believe in a conscious afterlife, and then you die and find yourself in a form of heaven/hell, then that is going to blindside you? I think we cannot anticipate what will happen, and we'll all be blindsided, or we won't exist to know the difference.

sara crouch commented on where can one find faith? on February 7, 2008, 1:44 AM

I'd rather evolve my mindset than commit to a religion. Religion is an interpretation of others' interpretations of things that (may or may not have) happened so long ago it's impossible to rationally place faith in any one institution. Consider how many different belief/nonbelief systems there are and understand that nobody is exactly right. Once I admitted to myself that there are so many inconsistencies regarding religion, it was much easier for me to analyze how I felt about the world and mankind. Accept your personal inclination, and then learn as much as you can about others'. If you believe, then by all means, believe. If you don't have faith in a supernatural deity, don't agonize. The world is just as beautiful minus the gods.
