Glad that you stated the historical perspective that has created a false sense of Americanism. We are a better people who can achieve more in our political systems if we take corrective actions to find true leadership willing to do the right things for the American people rather than corporate weasels who create fear and hysteria. As a great country, America needs to listen to what we are being told and reject any game plan that uses hype, fear, hyperbole, and meaningless media sound bytes. Read more and ask more questions before voting. Then vote to elect real leadership that does the right thing right. Thank you Paul Thurman for your openness.

Simply: we’ve been on a perpetual war footing for decades.
The Shah of Iran was an instrument of “the west”, a minority was empowered in Lebanon by machinations from “the west”, such as Saddam Hussein were empowered by “the west” while such as Allende were handed over to fascists like Pinochet despite having been democratically elected.

The Taliban gets all the rhetorical ammunition they need by consulting history.

“Manifest destiny” … oligarchs proceeding as warring gods.
