I agree that people should be thinking about what would be useful to work on. To be honest, you have to be interested in what you are about to take on, but when you decide which project to do (or book to write) you have to take a look at the long-term effect it will have. How does this contribute to your long-term goals? Will it get worked on without you? What is the probability you will be successful? But Disaster Capitalism is a great book, albeit bloody scary.
